Most Mondays I feel like Peter in Office Space and can hear that secretary woman running around in my head sputtering, “Sounds like somebody’s got a case of the Mondays!” But today’s Monday is perhaps the most exciting day that I have had in my career as a writer. Today’s Monday I can share some exciting news that has been building and building over the last few days…
As of today, I have an agent! *dancing*
My first offer came ten days ago and I beamed and squirmed and wanted to tell the world but I bit my tongue and let other agents who still had my query/partial/full weigh in. In the end, I had multiple offers on my MS (*faints*) and a huge decision ahead. I spoke with many wonderful, helpful, talented agents and everyone was so gracious to answer my questions and share with my their vision for my book. My heart rate was through the roof and my brain racing at a mile a minute. I was excited and stressed and anxious and ecstatic all at the same time.
But today, on a Monday that is anything but a typical Monday, I am pleased to announce that I have signed with Sara Crowe of Harvey Klinger. *more dancing*
I am thrilled (and humbled) to have Sara as my agent! She is so kind and incredibly fabulous and I am certain she is going to be an amazing champion for both my book and my career. I am so excited to begin working with her, and to polish up my manuscript, THE LAICOS PROJECT. I’ll be delving back into things almost immediately and I simply cannot wait.
I would not be here at this milestone if it were not for the help and support of many people. To the slew of writers who have shared insights with me these last few days, thank you. I have found the writing community to be filled with some of the most gracious, sincere and genuine people, and that is nothing short of awesome. My critique partner, April Tucholke, for being objective and brilliant and giving me all the right feedback on my novel. Meagan Spooner, who spoke some amazing words on juggling multiple offers, and Caroline Richmond for telling me to take a deep breath and have a cookie. And to my parents and sister, who have endured my near nightly phone calls. Especially you, Kelsy, for saying “I told you so” in the best way possible… for having faith in my writing when mine sometimes faltered, and for being my very first reader. You’re the best sister around. And of course to my husband, for being patient with my obsessive writing sessions and always believing that I would get to this moment.
OK. That became overly mushy, but I had to thank people, because I certainly didn’t do this alone.
Onwards and upwards. It only gets more interesting from here!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I’m so excited for you!
Thanks Caroline. And thank you attempting to calm my nerves all week. You’re the best!
Super awesome! Congratulations!
Thanks so much Mary!
OMG, YAY! Congratulations!!!! I hope that you’re able to take some serious deep breaths now, do some celebrating, and have a total dance party in your living room! You did it. 😀
Sooo excited for you! <3
Deep breaths indeed! I’m going to enjoy this down time while I can. Soon I’ll be waist deep in revisions… just like you! Thanks again for all your help/support throughout this process.
Congratulations, Erin! I”m so happy for you. Do you know Lisa Schroeder? I think she’s repped by Sara too, and she’s the super-sweetest.
Thanks Jess! I actually spoke with Lisa when I was weighing all my offers. She offered some great insight and was very kind.
I love you and am so so so proud of you!! You are the best, not me! 🙂
Thanks kiddo. But being my first ever reader, you’re still pretty darn awesome 🙂
